When you think of the Singapore Cable Car, you would probably picture stunning panoramic views, a gentle breeze, and a scenic ride to Sentosa. But during our visit to Singapore Cable Car’s Sky to Sustainability tour, an internal activity organised by Mount Faber Leisure Group (MFLG) in support of Go Green SG 2026, we got to see a whole different side of this attraction – one where sustainability isn’t just an afterthought but rather, one that runs from solar panels to the local produce on your plates.

Our day began with a cable car ride. But instead of looking out at the horizon, we were looking down at rooftops. Installed in 2024, a total of 380 solar panels now span the three cable car stations on the Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line. Siloso Point Station hosts the largest share with 160 panels, forming the official “Green Power Station” of the network. These solar panels generate electricity to power their daily operations, including the cable car system, lighting, elevators and lifts.

We then headed over to Arbora @ Mount Faber Peak. Here, the atmosphere shifted into an educational, "lecture-meets-learning" vibe. We watched a video detailing the mechanics of how cable cars work, bridging the gap between engineering and eco-friendly operations. Here, we learnt that their commitment to sustainability does not stop at their cable car stations, it follows you all the way to the table.

We sat down with Mr Zhou Yulv, MFLG’s Assistant Manager of Sustainability, to understand more about Singapore Cable Car’s milestones. Their commitment to the environment is deeply baked into their culinary ecosystem. Arbora @ Mount Faber Peak earned its Farm-to-Table recognition two and a half years ago. Last year, establishments Dusk @ Mount Faber Peak and Good Old Days Singapore Favours joined the ranks, securing the highest tier certification across all three establishments. The restaurants source at least 15% of their ingredients' dollar value from local farms across categories like leafy vegetables, bean sprouts, quail eggs and hen shell eggs, cutting down emissions while supporting local farmers.

Zhou added, “I hope that participants walk away understanding that sustainability isn’t just about big infrastructure. It’s about small daily habits as well. Beyond seeing how renewable energy powers our operations, they also experience our day-to-day waste reduction efforts, like our strict no single use plastic bags and bottles policy”.

Currently, this immersive experience is offered exclusively to the children of MFLG staff, as part of an internal initiative to seed these values from young. However, Zhou shared that extending the Sky to Sustainability tour to the public is firmly on the horizon.

This philosophy extends to their community outreach. Reflecting on their Go Green SG participation, Zhou shared that they previously organised an internal food donation drive, collecting and donating 800kg of perfectly good, fit-for-consumption food to Food Bank Singapore. While plans for next year are still under wraps, their dedication to backing Go Green SG remains absolute.

The Sky to Sustainability tour is a refreshing reminder that eco-friendly living doesn't mean sacrificing the experiences we love. The next time you step into the Singapore Cable Car, remember you aren't just taking a ride, you're witnessing a journey toward a greener tomorrow!
