Go Green SG is all about inspiring Singaporeans to take action for a greener, more sustainable nation. In support of this, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) once again held its MSE Family Go Green Week from 23–27 June this year, with officers from MSE, National Environment Agency (NEA), PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency , and Singapore Food Agency (SFA) participating in various learning journeys and activities throughout the week.

MSE Family Go Green Week Sustainability Fair

The highly-anticipated MSE Family Go Green Week Sustainability Fair was held in the foyer of the Environment Building. The fair brought together partners from both within and beyond the MSE Family – MSE, NEA, PUB, and SFA – alongside Singapore Agro-Food Enterprises Federation (SAFEF), NParks, the Singapore Green Building Council, SBS Transit, and local artist Yina Chua. The result? A vibrant and inspiring showcase of what sustainability looks like in action. Booths buzzed with activity as MSE Family staff participated in the interactive booths and shopped for fresh local produce like leafy vegetables, eggs, mushrooms and fish from local farmers.

“Some stalls sold out quickly!" said Michele Thompson, Deputy Director of MSE’s Research, Futures & Planning Division. “One farmer even remarked that they had brought more produce than last year but still ran out before noon!”

“I’m inspired to support our local farmers more regularly after seeing the range and quality of produce today,” shared Lee Li Ern, Assistant Director, NEA IT Department. More than just a marketplace, the fair sparked conversations on everything from green buildings and biodiversity to how individuals can take small, actionable steps.

Michele shared, “Every year, we’re surprised and encouraged by how creative and committed our partners and officers are. Sustainability doesn’t have to be daunting. It can be collaborative, personal, and even fun.” That creativity was on full display at the fair - from live cooking demonstrations to interactive games that made sustainability feel approachable and engaging.

As part of the MSE Family Go Green Week, MSE Family staff also embarked on various learning journeys to explore key infrastructures that shape Singapore’s sustainability journey. These included visits to Hawker Centres, Tuas Water Reclamation Plant and Jurong Fishery Port.

Officers also explored the great outdoors with a learning journey to Kranji Coastal Nature Park. Against the backdrop of lush mangroves and coastal trails, participants gained a firsthand appreciation of how natural ecosystems like mangroves play a crucial role in shielding our coasts and protecting biodiversity.

Guided by NParks facilitators, the group was introduced to the concept of nature-based solutions and learned how our local greenery can be a line of defence against rising sea levels.

“Whenever we’re doing any projects, we try to incorporate green initiatives wherever possible. That has made a significant impact on our work,” shared Dr Adeline Yong, Scientist, SFA Risk Assessment & Communications Department.

Officers shared personal reflections along the trail, from how the MSE Family Go Green Week has influenced their project planning, to how being in nature rekindled a deeper respect for the environment.

“It’s often the small, quiet actions that make the biggest impact,” said Sim Sze-wei, Senior Assistant Director, MSE Research, Futures & Planning Division. “Sustainability shouldn’t feel like a sacrifice. When we make it engaging and enjoyable, we create real change.”

A Greener Tomorrow, One Step at a Time

Whether trekking through mangroves or engaging with local farmers, this year’s MSE Family Go Green Week was a timely reminder that sustainability is a lived experience. “Moving forward, all of us can make a difference through our policies and personal actions. We must work together so that future generations will continue to enjoy this green and liveable island we call home.” said Minister Grace Fu, capturing the spirit of the week.  As we celebrate SG60 and look to the future, let’s continue to champion green practices in our workplaces, homes, and communities!
