Participants will be introduced to Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. Using real by-catch fish and specialised ink, they will create detailed prints that capture the intricate patterns of scales and fins.

Through this process, participants will learn about the origins of Gyotaku as a method used by fishers to document their catch, fostering a deeper respect for marine life and mindful harvesting practices. For the curious ones, fishes used after for Gyotaku are typically washed, cleaned, and eaten!

The activity also invites reflection on sustainable fisheries, our relationship with nature, and how art can deepen appreciation for biodiversity while encouraging environmental stewardship.
